Training guide for knights

A Knight is a melee fighter. Therefore, as a Knight you have to improve your melee attack skills and shielding skills. Also, it is necessary to raise your magic level in order to use runes to your advantage. However, it is not required to raise your distance weapon skills, fist fighting skills or fishing skills. Knights advance slowly in distance and they cannot do a significant damage using a distance weapon. Therefore, having distance skill at 10 (right at where it starts) is more than enough for a Knight. Same is true for Fist fighting which is an obsolete skill. A Knight would not need to fish like a mage and thus should not waste his time on raising rather a useless skill like Fishing.

At the beginning

While you are in Rookgaard, whether you have decided to be a Knight, or undecided about your vocation, it is unnecessary to train your skills. Because, it is a complete waste of your time to train in Rookgaard, due to the fact that you advance in skills very slowly. You can advance at a much faster rate when you are in the mainland. Therefore, save your time and leave Rookgaard as fast as you can.

Also, it is unnecessary to select a weapon class while you are in Rookgaard. Since you can advance at a rapid rate in mainland, by selecting a different weapon class later in mainland wouldn’t waste your time. For example, let’s say you used a mace in Rookgaard, which is a club type weapon. And when you come to mainland your club skill is 18. Now, you wanted to switch to sword. How long would it take you to get sword skill 18? Just half an hour. But, you can save that half an hour while you are in Rookgaard by using the weapon with the highest attack value (which you can get your hand on). Therefore, my advice is: whatever weapon class you want to use in mainland, don’t bother, just get a mace (or a Katana if that’s possible) and level up as soon as possible and go to the mainland.

Training methods

When you are in mainland, you can start your training. However, you don’t have to train. It is not a must and you can get away without training most of the time. It is only an added advantage to have good skills in the game. There are various ways to train. Some people prefer to get to a certain skill level before starting to hunt. Some others train once in a while for short periods of time. Still others, train while they kill. None of these method are better than the others. Choose the method which best fits your playing style and time. Let’s see what are these in turn:

1. Getting to a certain skill level before starting to hunt: This method is usually used by older players, who want to get a new char to a certain level quickly without spending their time killing weaker monsters. Since they have spend their time killing weaker monsters many hours and days already, it gets really boring to start a new character and go through the same cycle again. Therefore, most of them prefer to train their new character to a certain level before starting to hunt. Usually new players may avoid this method. Once you have reached a certain skill level, you may hunt for sometime. When you find that it is difficult for you to hunt the next level of monsters, then you may want to go on another training cycle, and so on.

2. Training once in a while: This is the most favourite training method. Once in a while when you feel like training a bit, go to a preferred training spot and train for few hours. Then, continue with hunting, etc.

3. Training as you hunt: Training as you hunt is another favourite method. This method is mostly used by players in non-PvP worlds where you use either balanced or defensive mode to hunt. When you use either balanced or defensive mode, it requires more hits to get a monster killed, and at the same time you will receive more hits from the monster. This will help to increase your skills. Use a good one handed weapon with your best shield.

How to train?

To train your melee, you must hit a monster or a player (only in PvP). To gain a particular melee skill advance, you must make a certain number of hits to a monster. These hits can be of three types:

1. Shield block – when a monster/player blocked your hit, a white smoke will be displayed.
2. Armor filter – when a monster/player couldn’t block a hit with their shield, their armor might absorb the damage. In such a case, yellow sparks will be shown.
3. Blood hits – a blood hit is where you draw blood from the opponent. This will show a damage number rising at the monster/player. A blood hit can only happen, when the opponent couldn’t block your hit with its shielding and couldn’t completely absorb the damage with its armor.

To gain shielding advances, you must receive hits from monsters/players, and you must block them (shown as smoke). Only the smokes count towards your shielding. Therefore, try to get as many as smoke but neither sparks nor blood hits from your opponents.

In early days of Tibia, a player could just make two monsters to attack him without him attacking the monsters, and leave the character AFK for extended periods of times to gain massive shield skill advances. To prevent this CIP has introduced a blood hit feature: you must hit blood either on an opponent or on your self, after every 30 seconds in order to advance. Otherwise, the hits you make or receive wouldn’t count towards your shielding.

To receive shielding advances, you must wear a shield. Two handed weapon wouldn’t help you to raise your shielding skill. You can block up to two opponents at a time. Therefore, you can make up to two opponents to hit you at the same time to gain faster shielding advances. However, since you cannot block more than two opponents using any method, hits from any extra opponents will not count towards your shielding skill.

Strategy

1. Non-pvp strategy

When training in a non-PvP world you must use regular monsters as your opponents. You can neither use players nor summoned or convinced monsters. Wear your best shield, so you can block more hits from monsters. Wear your best armor, so you will not loose much hit points during the training. Remember, you must hit blood every 30 seconds to advance. Therefore, choose a weapon and an attack mode such that you will hit blood (a little bit, so to keep your opponents alive for a long time) every 15-20 seconds. If you hit less, then switch to a powerful weapon or to a higher attack mode. If you draw more blood frequently then switch to a lower weapon or a lower attack mode.

Since it is difficult for a non-PvP player to find a fishing spot and monsters in the same location, carry a lot of food and constantly eat (even when you have full health) and cast spells to increase your magic level while training.

The following is a list of some good training monsters:

Name Description Troll A Troll is a good training monster for a novice player, until it is possible for him to train with Rotworms. The only disadvantage with trolls is that they run away when wounded. Rotworm Rotworms are one of the mainstream training monsters. They are easy to find in many underground caves and doesn’t run away when wounded. Therefore, they make one of the best training monsters. However, they have only a small amount of hit points and get damaged quickly. Dwarf Dwarves are a better training monster than Rotworms since they have more hit points and good armor. Minotaur Minotaurs are the best training monster. They have a good amount of hit points and much better armor than Dwarves or Rotworms. Therefore, you damage them less and infrequently. This is ideal for training. Orc Warrior Orc warriors are also a good training monster, but with two disadvantages. First, they run away when wounded. Second, they can damage you a lot unlike Minotaurs, Dwarves or Rotworms. Cyclops Cyclopes can be used to train by very high skilled players, if they cannot keep a Minotaur alive for a reasonable time. However, be careful since Cyclopes can damage you a lot.

2. Pvp and pvp-enforced strategy

There are many strategies to use in PvP worlds. Also, the above described non-PvP strategy of training with monsters can be used in such a world in addition to the following described strategies.

One way to train in a PvP world is to train with another player. In this method, you should attack your opponent while he attacks you. To gain faster shielding advances you should let one monster to attack each of you (2 monsters for both). Since, you are not attacking this monster, it can stay alive indefinitely. You will only have to attack your opponent and draw blood every 15-20 seconds. Both of you can fish or eat to gain health. Using this method, you can train for longer periods of times than using the monster method described under the non-PvP strategy.

Usually, if you have a good shield and good armor, you will not be able to draw blood on your friend/opponent using this method. Therefore, reduce your shield and armor in order to make it possible for your friend to draw blood on you and vice versa. Usually, players should use a wooden shield and no armor at higher levels.

Another way to train is to attack a summoned Ghoul. Ask one of your friends to summon a Ghoul for you. And get two other weaker monsters like rats or wolves to attack you. When you attack the Ghoul, the Ghoul will not hit you back since your friend didn’t attack you. But, it will heal as you damage it. This way, you can train as efficiently as training with another player. However, in this method, you don’t have to wear a crappy shield or no armor. You should wear your best shield and best armor.

Magic training

It is very difficult for a Knight to raise his magic level. Getting magic level 4 is one of the most important steps for a Knight since only then he will be able to use UH runes. Next most important level is magic level 6. Magic level 6 will grant the ability to use Explosion runes. After gaining magic level 6, there is no real advantage of gaining higher magic levels.

To increase your magic level, constantly eat and cast spells. Also, you can wear life rings or drink lot of mana fluids to make it faster. However, unlike for a mage or a paladin, these may be very costly for a Knight.
