a skilled escrima user would never attack like that, escrima uses the wrist mainly the arm does little movement, this tutorial is fail as far as escrima countering goes, now against a samurai with a katana maybe different story

The second move would only work if you’re up against a weaker guy who doesn’t hold at the bottom of the stick.

some of you seem to be forgetting that in a Martial Arts school the basis is self-defense, not an all-out fight like we see in many movies. The attacker in this situation is more often than not assumed to be some random guy with little to no experience with weapons. its pretty obvious that the techniques he performed are actually done fast in a real-life thing. The aim is defending yourself first.

That’s an interesting counter, though I would suggest when demonstrating the technique, show the full speed application of the capture and the lock.

hai you are correct but since no one is doing anything i guess japan and the other countrys dont care

Not only that, but a bullet will keep you in good shape, improve your health, give you something fun to do every day, make you friends, teach you physical skills, teach you discipline, and help you defend yourself when there is no gun involved.
    Incredibly handy, those little things.

  22. grafight on February 7th, 2010 12:12 am

Interesting… but in my opinion this technique is like having a gun and using it to block then hit him in the jaw with the handle.
Why not use the chuck in the way it’s most effective: A fast, powerful strike to the hand holding the stick from a safe distance?

  23. ProfessorOhms on February 7th, 2010 12:12 am

His focus is on the downward strike.
For him to kick in the balls he’d have to change his focus to down low to make a successful strike. By that time he would’ve have already brought him down in the arm bar. And I think most likely his focus will be getting out of the arm bar, because I would imagine it would be quite painful.

it does seem funny. But its also wrong in a different way. i mean, these martial arts are meant for those of its original nation and those who want to practice it.

For a religion to adopt it and call it its own is stupid. For them to even talk about the history of the weapons is a mockery of those who have originated the art
